Cook & Serve Breakfast for Guests at Ronald McDonald House Oregon
East House: 2620 N Commercial Ave
Ronald McDonald House Oregon (RMHC Oregon) is built on a simple but powerful belief: when a child is seriously ill or injured, families should be free to focus on one thing — getting their child well — without worrying about where they'll sleep or where their next meal will come from. What began as a single 17-room House has grown over four decades into a statewide network of four Houses with 86 rooms, along with in-hospital programs serving thousands of families every year. Families stay completely free of charge, with meals and snacks provided, removing a major barrier for those who might otherwise struggle to find housing near their child's care. From Portland to Bend, RMHC Oregon is a true home away from home — where families facing their hardest moments are reminded they are never alone.
Families staying at RMHC Oregon are often entirely focused on their child's care, with little time or energy left to prepare a meal. That's where this project comes in. By making breakfast burritos, volunteers provide families with something warm and comforting — one less thing to worry about during an already difficult time.
At RMHC Oregon's East House, we will help prepare, wrap and label ( just like a deli), and serve breakfast burritos for 25-30 guests. All materials and ingredients needed to make the burritos will be provided.

Serve Meals in The Blanchet House's Free Meal Cafe
310 NW Glisan St
Blanchet House of Hospitality was founded in 1952 by University of Portland alumni, rooted in the principles of the Catholic Worker Movement — though today it is an independent nonprofit with no religious affiliation. For over 70 years, their heart has been set on a simple but powerful purpose: alleviating suffering, offering hope, and serving every person who walks through their doors with dignity and care.
Their flagship Founders Café serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner six days a week, welcoming all comers without judgment, while their clothing program provides essential supplies to those in need. Residential transitional programs offer men struggling with addiction and unemployment a path forward, both in downtown Portland and at Blanchet Farm — a 62-acre rural property in Carlton, Oregon, where residents work the land and learn trades like woodworking as part of their recovery. Most recently, Blanchet has expanded its reach by opening Bethanie's Room, a new women's overnight shelter in Northwest Portland with space for up to 75 women per night.
From a humble storefront to a cornerstone of the Portland community, Blanchet House remains a remarkable example of what compassion, consistency, and a commitment to human dignity can build.
Volunteers will help in the Cafe by: plating food in the kitchen, serving meals to guests, performing light cleaning, bussing tables, preparing produce in the kitchen, pouring and serving drinks, and rolling forks or spoons.

Assist at SCRAP PDX's Store
619 SE 6th Ave
SCRAP Portland was born in 1998 when a group of teachers began looking for a home for their leftover classroom materials, and a beautiful idea took root. Today, SCRAP is a nonprofit whose mission is to inspire creative reuse and environmentally sustainable behavior by providing educational programs and affordable materials to the community. Donations of art, craft, office, and other creative materials pour in from individuals and businesses across the community, which SCRAP transforms into an affordable, ever-changing shop where artists, teachers, parents, and makers of all kinds can find inspiration without breaking the bank. What started as a table of supplies shared among teachers has grown into a beloved Portland institution and the flagship of a national network, proof that one community's castoffs can be another's creative treasure. As the flagship of a national network with locations in Richmond, Baltimore, and Ann Arbor, SCRAP PDX has diverted over 140 tons of usable material from the waste stream in a single year — truly changing one person's trash into another's treasure!
As a store volunteer at SCRAP PDX, you'll play a hands-on role in keeping the creative magic alive — whether that means organizing and tidying the shelves, sorting and packaging donated materials like yarn, fabric, and game pieces, pricing the ever-growing fabric section, or assembling the beloved To Go Kits and Collage Packs sold in-store and at community events. It's cheerful, satisfying work that makes a real difference in keeping SCRAP running smoothly for everyone who walks through the door.
