  • Make Brown Bag Lunches for Guests of RMHC SLC

    935 E South Temple Street

When families in the Salt Lake City area have children undergoing treatment at area children’s hospitals, they turn to Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Intermountain Area (RMHC SLC) for help. Here, families can find the support they need so that they can focus on caring for their sick children. RMHC SLC provides housing, meals, and community support - all free of charge. Their mission is to be the home away from home for these families by providing essential services that strengthen families, remove barriers, and ensure the best possible outcomes when children need healthcare.

Currently, RMHC SLC is undergoing an expansion of their facilities and so their kitchen is not available for use. They need our help putting together brown bag lunches for families who are guests of the House. We will make 100 nutritious and healthful brown bag lunches for families to take on the go. No cooking skills required - just a heart to serve and hands to help!

  • Donate to Purchasing Items for Brown Bag Lunches

We are making 100 nutritious and healthful brown bag lunches for guests of RMHC SLC! Oftentimes, families are so busy being with their children at the hospital or caring for their children who are not in treatment, that they need a way to quickly fuel up so they can get back to being bedside or tending to their non-hospitalized family members. That’s where we come in - we’re making sure that these families have a way to be nourished, especially as RMHC SLC is undergoing facility renovations right now.

But we need your help purchasing items for these lunches, as the cost quickly adds up! We would love donations in any amount. 100% of donations will go toward the purchasing of items for the brown bag lunches.

To donate, email us at projects@fencersdogood.org and we will provide you with a link. These donations will be earmarked specifically for this project, and all donations are tax-deductible. Let’s show the Salt Lake City how generous the fencing community can be!

We typically do our shopping at Costco.

  • Warehouse Volunteer at the Utah Food Bank

    3150 S 900 W

We will be working in the main warehouse, where we may help sort food donations, assemble food boxes, repackage bulk food into family-sized amounts or label food for distribution.

  • Collect Cords for Cords for a Cause

Salt Palace Convention Center, 100 S W Temple Street

Cords for a Cause is a fencer-led initiative whose mission is to collect broken fencing body cords, repair them, and provide the repaired cords to fencers and clubs that have limited access to such equipment.

By extending the life of used cords and redistributing them where they’re most needed, we aim to reduce waste and expand access to fencing.

At Cords for a Cause, we believe that no one should be stopped from fencing because of the cost of equipment! What starts as just fixing a few broken cords turns into something bigger….a way to help and support other fencers and - more importantly - a way to make the sport a little more accessible for everyone!

Volunteers will collect left-behind/broken body cords around the competition venue at the end of the day. After collection, the body cords should be dropped off in a box labeled “Cords for a Cause”, which will be located at the armory. Volunteers should take a picture of the collected cords and send it to cordsforacause.fencing@gmail.com.

Available dates & times to volunteer:

Daily, October 3rd-6th, after 5 PM (October 6th after 1 PM)

    Maximum number of volunteers:

There is a maximum of 2 volunteers per shift.

    Getting there:

You will earn 1.5 service hours for each time you collect cords - all without even leaving the Convention Center!
