Nevada Humane Society
2825 Longley Lane Suite B
For nearly a century, Nevada Humane Society has been saving animals, caring for them, and helping them find homes. An incredible 18,000 pets pass through their doors each year! Their focus is on compassionate care. As the only open-admission shelter in the state, their goal is to find new homes for as many of the pets that find their way to the Humane Society as possible, and to avoid euthanasia.
Volunteers will help with:
* Housekeeping: Laundry, dishes, washing carriers, packing food for the Pet Pantry, etc.
* Administration: making adoption packets with information for adopter, data entry, printing kennel cards, etc.
* Kennel Ambassadors: helping to show potential adopters around our dog kennels & provide training on good kennel behavior for the shelter’s dogs if visits from the public are slow.
* Cat Care & Enrichment: getting them out of their enclosures for enrichment and providing enrichment for the shelter’s cats.
* Dog Enrichment: spending time with a dog in the play yard to give them some time out of their kennels.

Knit Knot Knoop
Reno Sparks Convention Center
Even while the weather warm up outside, the nights can still be chilly! All the more reason for you to learn how to knit scarves and other knitwear for unhoused people who spend their nights sleeping in the rough.
Founded in 2022, Knit Knot Knoop’s mission is to educate young people about the homelessness epidemic in a creative way. We knit scarves and donate them to the homeless though our partner organization, Ezra. Knit Knot Knoop was created by Kate Elterman, a women’s epee fencer who wanted to do something kind for the homeless in her community during the pandemic. Kate has taught over 40 fencers how to knit and the organization has since grown to three chapters in the US.
Scarves knitted by Knit Knot Knoop volunteers give homeless individuals the extra layer of warmth they need in the colder months. It’s a layer of love and kindness. We will teach you how to knit and provide all the supplies. This is something that once you learn how to do, you can do at every tournament or in your spare time.
All knitting levels are welcome, from beginner to experienced.
Available dates & times to volunteer:
Saturday, May 17th, 3:00 pm
We will meet at the USA Fencing check-in desk and work in a quiet space in the Convention Center.
You will receive 2 hours service credit for this volunteer project.
