Shoes and Clothes for Kids
15500 S Waterloo Rd, Cleveland
Shoes and Clothes for Kids was started in 1969 by Morrie Sayre, a local furniture manufacturer and salesman, with the goal of meeting children’s basic needs to increase self-esteem, remove school attendance barriers, and improve academic performance. Mr. Sayre was inspired to start Shoes and Clothes for Kids when he saw three brothers sharing a pair of shoes to go to school. He couldn’t believe that these brothers had to take turns to go to school because they didn’t have enough shoes! And so, he began giving away shoes to kids from the trunk of his car, earning him the beloved nickname “Mr. Shoes.” Thus, for the last 56 years, Shoes and Clothes for Kids has provided over 28,000 kids in Cuyahoga County with new shoes, clothes and school supplies so that they can attend school and excel academically. It is the only charity in the area to do so year-round.
Volunteers may be asked to help with counting, organizing and sorting inventory; shelving supplies and stuffing backpacks with supplies.
Volunteers should wear shirts and pants and closed-toed shoes.
You will be able to store your personal belongings and take a break in our volunteer room.

Knit Knot Knoop
Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland
Brrr! It’s cold outside! While most of us bundle up when the temperature drops, there are many people who don’t have enough to wear during the cold winters. You can do something kind for your neighbor and learn a new skill by volunteering to make scarves for the homeless.
Founded in 2022, Knit Knot Knoop’s mission is to educate young people about the homelessness epidemic in a creative way. We knit scarves and donate them to the homeless though our partner organization, Ezra. Knit Knot Knoop was created by Kate Elterman, a women’s epee fencer who wanted to do something kind for the homeless in her community during the pandemic. Kate has taught over 40 fencers how to knit and the organization has since grown to three chapters in the US.
Scarves knitted by Knit Knot Knoop volunteers give homeless individuals the extra layer of warmth they need in the colder months. It’s a layer of love and kindness. We will teach you how to knit and provide all the supplies. This is something that once you learn how to do, you can do at every tournament or in your spare time.
All knitting levels are welcome, from beginner to experienced.
Available dates and times to volunteer:
Sunday, March 9th, 3:00 pm
We will meet at the USA Fencing check-in desk and work in a quiet space in the Convention Center.
You will receive 2 hours service credit for this volunteer project.
