In 1971, Frank Gerson, who was working at the city incinerator at the time, noticed that household items were being thrown away that could still be put to good use. He began saving these items and gave them away to families that needed them. Mr. Gerson eventually quit his job to devote himself full-time to this charitable work, thus creating the Free Store. Eight years later in 1979, Free Store became the Freestore Foodbank and was a founding member of Feeding America. Today, Freestore Foodbank is the largest emergency food and services provider to children and families in Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky and Southeast Indiana. Its mission is to improve lives by eliminating hunger in partnership with its community.

Freestore Foodbank’s Bea Taylor Market is a free food, choice pantry where visitors shop for various grocery items including fresh produce, frozen items, canned/dried goods, and a range of snacks - much like in a regular grocery store. The market is designed to help make ends meet and provide a comfortable, dignifying shopping experience for those in need.

Volunteers will restock shelves, bag shopper's items, occasionally retrieve shopping carts/assist in loading cars, and help with light cleaning.

Important information for volunteers:

Volunteers must be at least 13 years old to participate. Parents are encouraged to volunteer alongside their fencer, and a DoGood parent will volunteer at this event. 

Volunteers must wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes; tennis shoes are ok. No flip-flops or sandals may be worn due to safety regulations.  You cannot volunteer in the warehouse without wearing closed-toe and heel shoes. Shirts must have sleeves; a DoGood shirt will be provided. 

If you are feeling under the weather, we ask that you cancel your registration.

Cincinnati Animal CARE (CAC) began serving Hamilton County in August 2020, taking responsibility for the county’s animal services with a commitment to humane, no-kill sheltering. As Hamilton County’s only stray-intake municipal animal shelter, CAC provides individualized care, lifesaving solutions, and temporary shelter for animals in need. Its mission is to reunite lost pets, reduce the stray population, and connect homeless animals with safe, compatible homes through adoption and rescue. CAC also serves as a community resource by providing education and support for responsible pet care, while volunteers help improve animals’ quality of life through activities such as walking dogs, caring for cats, enrichment, and shelter support.

Help CAC by cleaning cat kennels, hand out breakfast to cats, and socialize with cats! If you're a cat person, this is for you!

Important information for volunteers:

There is no minimum age for this project! A DoGood parent will volunteer at this project.

Volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes with long pants. 

Please only volunteer if you are feeling well.

Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Southwest Ohio began serving families in Cincinnati in 1982, providing a place for families to stay close to their children while they receive medical care. Today, the Cincinnati House supports families with a comfortable place to stay, shared spaces, and meals and food that help make an especially difficult time a little easier. Families can enjoy meals together at the House, with food provided through the organization and the support of volunteers and community partners. In 2026, the Cincinnati and Dayton chapters joined together as Ronald McDonald House Southwest Ohio, expanding their ability to keep families close and support them throughout their child’s medical journey.

Help host a donut bar for guest of the RMHC of Southwest Ohio! Prepare to serve 50-60 people.

Important information for volunteers:

Volunteers must be age 10+ to participate in this event. Parents are encouraged to volunteer alongside their fencer, and all minors must be accompanied by an adult 18+. A DoGood parent will volunteer on this project.

Volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes with hair pulled back. 

Please only volunteer if you are feeling well.

Maximum number of volunteers:

There is a maximum of 8 volunteers for this project.
