ALEX GIOIELLA

Meet Alex - referee, coach, advocate, and all-around fencing powerhouse! She’s been part of the fencing community for over 20 years, starting as an athlete and growing into a passionate leader who’s all about making the sport more inclusive, welcoming, and fun for everyone.

These days, you’ll find Alex calling the action as a referee, organizing community events, and helping young people discover their strength through fencing. She has a special knack for mentoring up-and-coming referees - cheering them on as they build confidence, sharpen their skills, and find their stride on the strip.

And beyond the fencing world, Alex brings serious dedication and experience. With a professional background in law and youth justice advocacy, she’s worked nationally on LGBTQ+ rights, trans athlete inclusion, and building safer, more accountable spaces in sports. Her passion for equity and community drives everything she does.

Alex joined the DoGood Board because she believes in the magic of fencing: its power to build confidence, resilience, and connection. She's here to support the brilliant young changemakers leading the charge—and to help make sure every fencer feels like they belong.
